Use Windows* to Manage WiFi

Main Window

The WiFi connection utility main window lets you:

View the current connection status (signal quality, speed, and current network name).
Scan for available WiFi networks.
Manage profiles.
Auto-connect profiles to available WiFi networks in a specific order defined in the Profiles list.
Connect to Network (Infrastructure) and Device to Device (ad hoc) WiFi networks.
Configure adapter settings.
Troubleshoot WiFi connection problems.

Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility Help

Press the F1 key or click Help menu on the main window to access help information.
Press F6 to toggle between the left and right pane. Use the up and down arrow as an alternative on your keyboard to move up and down within the pane.
To view information, click Contents in the left-side pane.
Double-click on a book icon to open a Contents' topic. Use the up and down arrows to select a topic and press Enter as an alternative to open the sub-topics.
Click Index or Search to look for a specific term.

Start Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility

To start the WiFi connection utility, use one of the following methods:

Click Start > All Programs > Intel PROSet Wireless > WiFi Connection Utility.
Right-click the Taskbar icon located in the lower right corner of your Windows Desktop. Click Configure WiFi.
Double-click the Taskbar icon to open Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility.

Profile Management

On the WiFi connection utility main window, click Connect on a wireless network. Once connected, a profile is created in the Profiles list. The Profiles List displays the current user profiles in the order that they are to be applied. Use the up and down arrows to arrange profiles in a specific order to automatically connect to a wireless network.

You can also add, edit, and remove profiles from the Profiles list. Click Profiles... on the WiFi connection utility main window

Different profiles can be configured for each wireless network. Profile settings can include, the network name (SSID), operating mode, and security settings. See Profile Management and Profiles List for more information.

Menus

Use the File, Tools, Advanced, Profiles and Help menus to configure your network settings.

Menu Descriptions

Name	Description
File Menu	Exit: Close the WiFi connection utility main window. Perform one of these steps to start the WiFi connection utility: Click Start > All Programs > Intel PROSet Wireless > WiFi Connection Utility. Click the Taskbar icon located in the lower right corner of your Windows Desktop, and click the menu option Configure WiFi. Double-click the Taskbar icon to open the WiFi connection utility.
Tools Menu	Application Settings: Use to set system wide connection preferences. Intel® Wireless Troubleshooter: Use to assist you in resolving wireless network connection issues. Manual Diagnostics Tool: The Manual Diagnostics Tool lets you run a set of diagnostics tests that verify the functionality of your WiFi adapter. Administrator Tool: Used by administrators or the person who has administrator privileges on this computer to configure shared profiles (Pre-logon/Common, Persistent and Voice over IP [VoIP]) and packages.
Advanced Menu	Adapter Settings: Displays Adapter Settings that correlate to the settings made in the Windows Advanced settings. To access Adapter Settings from Microsoft Windows: Select Network Connections from the Windows Control Panel Right click the Wireless Network Connection. From the menu, select Properties. Click Configure to display the Advanced settings for the adapter. Advanced Statistics: Select to determine how the adapter communicates with an access point. Profiles Menu	Manage Profiles: Select to create or edit profiles. Manage Exclusions: Select to exclude networks from automatic connection.
Help Menu	Help: Starts the online help (F1). About: Displays version information for the currently installed application components.

Close Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility

To close the WiFi connection utility from the main window, select one of the following:

Select File > Exit from the main window.
Click Close on the main window.

Use Microsoft Windows* to Manage WiFi

You can use Windows* to manage your Wi-Fi* connections.

At the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility main window, under the Advanced menu, select Use Windows to Manage WiFi.
At the prompt window, you are queried: Do you want Windows to manage your WiFi network connections? Click Yes.
At the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility main window, click Open Network Properties.
Click the main window again and click Close to close the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility.
Use the Windows Network and Sharing Center to manage WiFi.

To let the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility manage your WiFi connections, right-click the utility icon in the task tray and select Enable WiFi Control.
